Landover Offers Renters Quick Commute, Short Drive to FedEx

Landover Hills Neighborhood Park covers 16 acres and includes a baseball diamond, tennis courts and picnic areas.

Landover, Md., holds a special distinction in my mind: It reminds me of figure skating and the wonderfully soothing sounds of Olympic-champion-turned-commentator Dick Button. Remember that guy? (He’s still around.)

They used to hold the World Professional Figure Skating Championships in Landover. As a kid, I was forced to watch figure skating because my mom and sister liked it. Other than some of the hotter female skaters, my idea of pleasurable television-watching wasn’t Scott Hamilton doing the triple lutz or Brian Boitano doing his version, the ‘Tano triple. Katarina Witt? Now we’re talking. But, I digress…

The other things Landover is readily associated with are the Washington Redskins and FedEx Field. Yes, the ‘Skins, the forever underachieving, used-to-be dynasty that still has its share of rabid fans in the metro region.

So, if you’re looking for apartments in Landover, what else does the city have to offer? Answer: location. Ensconced in Prince George’s County, Landover sits right on U.S. Route 50 and just inside the I-495 Capital Beltway, which gives the renter a way to commute to nearly any metro-area town for work, including the big enchilada itself, the nation’s capital. You’re that close. And if you want to commute by rail, you’re also in luck, as the WMATA has a Metrorail stop in Landover on the Orange Line.

According to the 2006-08 American Community Survey 3-Year Estimate, 22,527 people live in the Greater Landover area. The town is near parks and has plenty of green space, and you’re close to many restaurants, though most don’t have a Landover address. Your shopping choices are about the same: close, but a different address.

So, there you have it. The Washington Redskins, plus various commuting options, plus, uh, vague memories of televised figure skating equal a good place to rent an apartment.
