Lanham conveniently hugs the Capital Beltway, enabling easy access to most points in the metro area.
Lanham, MD, is an unincorporated town in Prince George’s County, and according to the 2006-08 American Community Survey 3-Year Estimate, it has 20,348 residents (the Census Bureau combines Lanham’s population with neighboring Seabrook).
The real selling point of renting an apartment in Lanham is its location: It’s only about six or seven miles outside the city limits of Washington, D.C. To reach the capital, it’s a pretty straight shot down Maryland Route 450, and you can even take the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and then U.S. Route 50 a bit down that road if you’re so inclined.
Lanham also sits just outside the I-495 Capital Beltway, and while it technically doesn’t have its own WMATA Metrorail station, the town is only a mile or two northeast of the New Carrollton stop on the Orange Line. The New Carrollton stop is accompanied by a Maryland Transit Administration MARC train that travels to Union Station in D.C., as well. Two trains in one station; can’t beat that.
Lanham boasts the Good Luck Community Center, which offers a variety of activities that apartment renters may enjoy. There’s also Lanham Forest Recreation Center for outdoor fun. In fact, the entire town is pretty green. On the education front, there are several private schools and one public high school in town.
Like most areas in the metro region, there’s plenty of shopping nearby, including a Giant for groceries. And after a quick hop, skip and skedaddle on the Beltway, you can find whatever else you want.
So, to the undecided apartment renter reading this post: Lanham, MD, is quite the convenient place to live while pursuing your dreams in the capital of the free world.
