Going study: With a college campus in town, Largo is a smart choice for the renter interested in furthering their education.
Ah, Largo, Md. I just can’t help but think of Bertie Higgins’ schmaltzy “Key Largo,” a Top 40 hit from the early ‘80s, when I see the town’s name.
While Largo can’t offer you the Florida Keys, it can offer you a quick jaunt to our nation’s capital for work or play. Motorists can hop on the I-495 Capital Beltway or Central Avenue, two major roadways that run through town, while non-drivers can take advantage of Largo’s two metro stops – Morgan Boulevard and Largo Town Center on the blue line – to get where they need to be.
If you’re looking for apartments in Largo, you should know the town has more going for it than a two-miles-and-change drive to D.C.
Largo is also home to Prince George’s Community College, which, according to its Web site, enrolls “more than 37,000 students each year … representing 103 countries throughout the world.” That’s a lot of kids and a lot of countries.
Football fans will be jazzed (or not) by Largo’s proximity to that perpetual kingdom of gridiron misery, Landover’s FedEx Field, home to the luckless Washington Redskins.
As of 2000, Largo had a population of 8,408. Though the town doesn’t have many official parks (Largo-Northampton Urban Center seems about it), it’s near a bunch of other larger ones – such as Watkins Regional Park, with its miniature golf course, working train and nature center – and has lots of trees.
Boulevard At The Capital Centre, the town’s major shopping mall, features a Borders, Pier 1 Imports, Sports Authority and a lot of other specialty shops and restaurants, while the AMC Magic Johnson Capital Centre 12 multiplex shows you the films.
