Decorating Your New Apartment with Color

Are you trying to decide how to add color to your new apartment? Can’t decide what color to use? If you understand how some colors will impact your surroundings, it will help you chose the best colors for each room in your apartment home. Before you begin to paint, make sure you understand the rules set by your management company. Even if the management company won’t let you paint, you can add new color schemes with curtains, area rugs, pillows, candles and blankets.
Red
This is a great accent color. It is bright and bold and suggests vitality and aggressiveness. This color will make an open or cold room seem more inviting and intimate. Deep, but subtle shades such as burgundy are perfect for a living room. Be careful, it can sometimes be too dramatic. A good complementary color is green
Blue
If you are looking for a color to provide the feeling of harmony or peace, then you should look at the blue color family. This is an excellent bedroom color because it is comforting and serene. It can also soften over-bright rooms. Try orange for a good complementary color.
Violet
A powerful accent color and is also strong and majestic. The right shade will give the impression of royalty. Pastel violets take on the characteristics of red or blue. Be careful with violet, it can be overpowering. Yellow is complementary.
Yellow
This is a great kitchen color. Stimulating, sunny and cheerful, it is associated with power and creative energy. One of the most versatile colors, it can bring warmth and light into a dark room and pale yellows make small rooms seem larger. A great complement is violet.
Orange
A great color choice for bathrooms and work areas. Combines the energy of red with stimulating cheerfulness of yellow. Peachy tones have a delicate effect, while brownish oranges are warm and cozy. Try completing with blue.
Green
If you love the outdoors, this is a great color to consider. It brings a garden-like atmosphere indoors and works in just about every room. Red is a good complement.
If your new color is a bit splashy for your taste, try adding neutral earth tones and shades of black and gray to tone down the splash.
Remember that your warm colors are red, red-violet, yellow, yellow-orange, orange, red-orange. Pick from this list for a cozy, intimate feeling.
Light cool colors include green, blue-violet, blue, blue-green, and white. Use these colors to make the room elegant and spacious.
