Description

Chevy Chase lies east of Bethesda, between the District and East-West Highway. Historically, Chevy Chase was named after a medieval English estate and has maintained much of its village-like qualities from the past. Well-known points of interests include the Audubon Naturalist Society Refuge--which houses a 40 acre habitat, and the historic Woodend Mansion. Politically, there are two separate government jurisdictions in Chevy Chase--the Town of Chevy Chase and Village of Chevy Chase.

County Description

The County of Montgomery was formed by the splitting of Frederick County in 1776, and was named after Revolutionary War General Richard Montgomery. Today, Montgomery County spans 497 square miles and is the one of the most populated and fastest growing counties in Maryland.

The County is home to a large number of technology, government, telecommunications and biotech firms--most of which lie around I-270 and Route 29. Major firms include Marriott, Lockheed Martin, Human Genome Sciences and Hughes Network Systems.

The area boasts a number of parks, lakes, 30 golf courses and other recreational areas. Montgomery has about 190 public schools, 237 private schools and 7 nearby colleges and universities. Major universities include University of Maryland, Montgomery College, John Hopkins and Strayer University.
