Don't confuse the City of Fairfax with Fairfax County--the City of Fairfax is located in the Fairfax County area but does not lie under any County jurisdiction. Fairfax City is a carefully blended combination of old and new.

Residents and visitors can enjoy the multitude of specialty shops and cafes located in Old Town Fairfax. Others can enjoy watching movies at the Fairfax 14 Cinema De Lux or dine at one of the many restaurants in Fairfax Corner, Fair Oaks Mall or Fair Lakes Center. The city has various residential options including apartments, houses, townhomes and condos. Most of the city has retained much of its village charm and colonial-like qualities with its manicured trees, brick-laden sidewalks, small houses, parklands and open spaces.

Fairfax City is located near major thoroughfares I-66, Routes 50, 29 and 123. Public transportation is provided by CUE bus or nearby Vienna/Fairfax Metro station. Fairfax City is also home to the main campus of George Mason University- a public university popular with commuter students. Dining, shopping and entertainment include the Old Town Fairfax, Fairfax Corner, GMU Patriot Center, University Shopping Center, Fair Oaks Mall, Fair Lakes Shopping Center and Fair City Mall.
