City List

Description

Don't confuse the City of Fairfax with Fairfax County--the actual City of Fairfax is located in the Fairfax County area but does not lie under any County jurisdiction. Fairfax has retained much of its village charm and colonial-like qualities with tree and brick-laden sidewalks, small houses, parklands and open spaces.

Fairfax City is located near I-66, Routes 50 and 29. Transportation is provided by CUE bus or nearby Vienna/Fairfax Metro. Fairfax City is also home to George Mason University. Local shopping areas and entertainment include the Old Town Fairfax, GMU Patriot Center, University Shopping Center and Fair City Mall.

Fairfax County spans 399 square miles and is ranked as having one of the best school systems, police and fire departments in the Washington DC Metro Area. The area is also home to numerous businesses and companies, including several Fortune 500 companies -- Capital One, Freddie Mac, Nextel, Sallie Mae to name a few.

Housing opportunities are abundant throughout Fairfax County, and apartment communities are no exception. Although many travel by car, many residents also commute to work using the Metro.
