City List

Description

From the 1920s the town was known as Riverdale, named for the plantation home built in the 1800s. But in 1998, it was voted to rename the town as Riverdale Park. The US Postal Service currently uses the name "Riverdale" so most residents use just "Riverdale" as their city on mail. The housing style varies here; styles range from Victorian and Craftsman to Bungalows, Ramblers and Split Foyers.

At the center of the town is the old Riverdale plantation home, which is now a historic landmark. Riverdale Park maintains its small-town feel with its tree-lined streets, historic homes and diverse cultures. Riverdale has a number of public parks, space and recreational areas as well as a nearby MARC train stop.

County Description

Formed in 1696, Prince George's County is a suburban county that spans 487 square miles and lies just 37 miles south of Baltimore. The county was named after Prince George of Denmark, and was created from parts of Charles and Calvert Counties.

Prince George's County has many apartment communities available, which are convenient to both higher education and major employment opportunities. Nearby colleges include Bowie State University, Capitol College, Prince George's Community College, Strayer University, and the University of Maryland (UMD). Employment can be found in both the transportation and trade sectors, and the area has a large number of technological firms. Washington DC is just minutes away too, which makes Prince George's County a convenient location to live if you work in DC.

Major points of interest include the Washington Redskins' FedEx Field, BET Sound Stage, Andrews Air Force Base, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and the USDA Research Center. Recreational areas range from several shopping town centers to acres of parklands.
