City List

Description

Also known as Azalea City, Takoma Park is known for being environment and vegetarian friendly. Takoma Park has made efforts to promote recycling, tree conservation, vegan and vegetarian selections in stores, and the overall environment. When the town was built in 1883, most landowners were strictly vegetarian followers of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Much of the community's resources such as the hospital, schools and churches branch off from the Adventist Church.

Takoma Park is also known for being family-oriented, promoting safety and friendly neighbors. For those who like recreation, city festivities include the Jazz Festival, Folk Festival, Takoma Park Street Festival and the Fourth of July Parade.

The area boasts a number of parks, lakes, 30 golf courses and other recreational areas. Montgomery has about 190 public schools, 237 private schools and 7 nearby colleges and universities. Major universities include University of Maryland, Montgomery College, John Hopkins and Strayer University.
