Several cities in Spotsylvania County include Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Spotsylvania, Snell and Thornburg. The biggest town is Fredericksburg, with fewer than 30,000 residents, is best known for its place in Civil War history. In its Old Town area are more than 100 shops, restaurants, and the downtown "Antique Row" near the river. On the other side of town, off Route 3, are the newly renovated Spotsylvania Town Center and Central Park Shopping region.
I-95 cuts through the heart of the county, providing convenient access to the DC area. As an alternative to driving, the VRE stops are easily accessible in Fredericksburg.
