Why Bethesda Could be Your Next Hometown
Bethesda, named for the 1820 Bethesda Presbyterian Church, is today one of the most prosperous communities in Maryland. The area used to be known as a quiet little suburb until it underwent a large growth during the late 1980s, when Metro came.
Today, Bethesda is home to the National Institute of Health, National Library of Medicine, National Naval Medical Center and Marriott Corporation. Bethesda is urbanized and has a metropolitan-like feel, with an abundance of apartment communities, as well as recreational and retail complexes. Popular city events include the Taste of Bethesda, Imagination Bethesda Children's Street Festival, free Summer Concert series and the Literary Festival.
