Why Bowie Could be Your Next Hometown
Originally known as Huntington City, Bowie was later renamed after Oden Bowie (former Governor of Maryland) in 1874. The city that used to be a railroad stop is now one of the fastest growing cities in Maryland.
Bowie has a Minor League Baseball Team, the Baysox, affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles. The Baysox season runs annually from April to September. Aside from the baseball team, there is much to enjoy from the city with its acres of parks, ballfields, community centers, museums and golf course.
Residents can also visit the Bowie Town Center for outdoor main street shopping. Points of interest include the Bowie Race Track, Belair Stables, Woodward Mansion and Bowie State University. The Institute for Defense Analysis and University of Maryland's Science and Technology Center are also located here.
