Incorporated in 1953, New Carrollton was named after one of Maryland's early leaders, John Carroll of Carrollton. Carroll was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and one of the nation's first Senators from Maryland.
New Carrollton lies just off I-495 and Route 50, allowing convenient access to Washington DC, Northern Virginia and parts of Maryland.
