Why Arlington Could be Your Next Hometown

Arlington lies right across the Nation's Capital and is rich in culture, history and commerce. The area is a fast-paced growing county -- more than half of the homes are rented and a number of luxury apartments and condos are being built today.

Arlington is considered to be a county rather than a city or town--rather, it's made up of many neighborhoods and districts: Ballston, Clarendon, Courthouse, Rosslyn, Crystal City, Shirlington, and Pentagon City. All of these neighborhoods and districts provide an ample amount of entertainment, night life and old-town style shopping easily accessible by foot or train. Arlington has one of the best transportation systems in the country-no car is required. Walking and biking trails are abundant as well as a number of Metro train and bus stations spread throughout the county.

Arlington is home to the Ronald Reagan National Airport, which allows airplane travel access for residents and visitors. The Arlington National Cemetery, Air Force Memorial and Pentagon Memorial serves as historic landmarks and points of interests. The Pentagon City Mall offers an abundance of shopping, restaurants and entertainment options for locals and visitors.

Historically, Arlington was it was part of the District in 1791 and was previously known as the Alexandria County of the District of Columbia. However in 1846 the area later was returned to Virginia and 24 years later, the city separated from the county of Alexandria. The name was later changed to Arlington in 1920 when Arlington County was adopted.
