McLean is census-designated place (CDP), combining the areas known as Great Falls, Langley and Lewinsville. The community was named for John R. McLean, who was a publisher of the Washington Post and also a principal stockholder in Great Falls and Old Dominion Railroad in the 1900s. In 1910 the area was founded by the merging of Langley and Lewinsville.
McLean offers a multitude of employment opportunities. McLean is home to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Booz Allen Hamilton, USA Today, Capital One and Mars Inc.
