Situated in the southeastern part of Prince William County, Triangle is just south of Dumfries along I-95 and the Jefferson Davis Highway. Triangle is bordered by the Quantico Marine Corps Base to the south, Prince William Forest Park to the west and Potomac River on the east.

Triangle itself is an unincorporated place and thus has no official borders. However, it is defined as a census designated place by the US Census Bureau. The area spans only 2.6 square miles and is a quiet, small community. With over 15,000 acres, the nearby Prince William Forest Park is the largest protected area in the DC metropolitan area. Recreational activities at the park include camping, biking, fishing, hiking and nature walks.
