Alexandria Leaves Dog Owners Howling With Delight

Some towns may say they’re dog-friendly, but Alexandria really means it.

In fact, the city is a big reason Northern Virginia as a whole was ranked fourth in DogFriendly.com’s poll of the 10 dog-friendliest cities for 2010.

But don’t take their word for it, take ours. How many cities do you know that have dog-friendly hotels and restaurants? OK, I’ll grant you there may be some others out there, but how many have their own happy hour for dogs? Ah, ha! See, I got you there.

Jackson 20 and the Hotel Monaco host Doggie Happy Hour every Tuesday and Thursday from 5-8 p.m., and it runs from April 1 to Halloween. You don’t have to be a hotel guest to bring your pooch, either.

But more than that, there are scads of hotels, restaurants and parks in Alexandria that welcome dogs, and an impressive 15 off-leash parks.

Along with the usual PetSmarts (two) and PETCOs (one), Alexandria also offers Madeleine’s Dogs, so owners can keep their canine looking and feeling its best.

So, renting an apartment in Alexandria will be as good for your four-legged friend as it will be for you. Check out Apartment Showcase for more information.
