4 Reasons to Rent an Apartment in Alexandria
Another of the big municipalities that ring our capital, Alexandria has enough cachet for you to forget about the big city. It’s a sizable city itself with sites to see, things to do and places to go.
Here are four reasons to rent an apartment in Alexandria:
1. Location – Yes, we start off with an easy one. And really, that’s a great thing about renting inside the I-495 Capital Beltway: You are quite literally in the mix of things. There are four Metro stops in Alexandria, three on the Blue/Yellow Line and one on the Yellow Line. There are a few others close by in other jurisdictions as well. And big roads – the Capital Beltway, I-395, the George Washington Memorial Parkway – lead you in and out of Alexandria, toward D.C. and away from it.

2. Old Town – Having spent some time here, I can readily say this is one of the best places in the area. This site gives you an in-depth look at Old Town’s charms. With its restaurants and bars, history (Alexandria was founded in 1749), shopping and unique attractions, this is a swell place for the renter to fall for. Plus, this part of town is just plain pretty.
3. Athenaeum – This is one of those attractions alluded to. I’ve blogged about this place before. The beautiful Athenaeum is home to the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association and presents art, musicians and actors.
4. Walkability – Overall, Alexandria rates a 65 at Walk Score, which is pretty good. Of course, some of Alexandria isn’t super walkable. But Old Town and its surrounding neighborhoods are great for bipedalling it. You could do worse than Alexandria if you’re a walker, and much worse if you’re a renter.
