Walk Scores for the Metro Maryland Area

We’ve done them for the city and Arlington, so now it’s time we did them for suburban Maryland: walk scores. (And yes, we’ll get to the rest of Northern Virginia soon.)

While not quite as walkable as D.C. or Arlington – according to Walk Score – Maryland still has plenty of places where you can get by without a car. (We’re including Annapolis in this listing, even though it’s quite a ways outside the beltway.)

All of these rankings boast a “Somewhat Walkable” tag. But a little research of your own can tell you that, depending on your address, some of these cities and towns are very walkable and great places to rent an apartment. Bethesda comes to mind …

1. Takoma Park              Walk Score: 67
2. Silver Spring               Walk Score: 63
3. Rockville                      Walk Score: 59
4. Annapolis                    Walk Score: 59
5. North Bethesda          Walk Score: 58
6. Gaithersburg               Walk Score: 57
7. Bethesda                     Walk Score: 50
