For the Love of Interior Design

How often do you hear the words, “I LOVE that chair!” OK, maybe you don’t hear it that often, but I certainly do with my occupation. If it’s not that chair, it’s that rug, or that color, or that pillow. And I know you must’ve thought it before too! What is this love at first sight with design? I witness it every day and it still boggles my mind to see the aesthetic excitement or disgust that each client expresses so differently from the next.

I guess we all have different experiences and compilations of memories of our homes lived-in-past, or seen on TV, or visited. Different smells, different touch, different emotions associated from each one. And an old antique rocking chair that would make one person fall in love because it reminds them of their grandma, might make another person hyperventilate thinking about all of the strangers and germs that have been on it.

Whenever I meet new clients, I get to know them quickly. That is a great part of my job. And from an interior design aspect or not, in this crazy world everyone is so unique. Client A prefers calming pastels and curvy furniture because she is very feminine, and because her aunt had a camel back sofa that she loved growing up, and because it reminds her of the ocean and because she doesn’t know why. While Client B hated her aunt’s sofa, and wants deep teal walls and crisp white furniture with a lot of motion because she saw it on Pinterest, and she has always loved bold colors, and needs to be surrounded with high energy and visual stimulation or she’ll get bored.

Everyone’s priorities are different, everyone’s function is different, and everyone’s “beautiful” is so incredibly different. Just like no two people would create the same mix tape, or have the same wardrobe, or write the same letter, or read all the same books, or live in all the same places (most likely) no two would fall in love with all of the same pieces that go into their unique home either. But the beauty behind all of this is that everyone does just want to feel good at home. We all need a personal space to live each day to it’s best potential both physically and emotionally. We are all so unique, and ultimately very much the same.

So everyone go find your favorite cranny of your home and appreciate it, and zen out for a minute, and think about all of the people and things going on around us, and fall in love with your surroundings. And if you need help enhancing them, I am always a click away!  You can also find which area is right for you here.  Thank you Apartment Showcase!
