Calling All Car Lovers: D.C. Auto Show Gets Rolling This Weekend

Ah, the 2015 Washington Auto Show, hallowed be thy name … for car nuts anyway. And these same nuts have 10 days to salivate about all things auto. The show will take place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Northwest from January 23 to February 1.

It’s the largest public show in the city, “showcasing the latest innovations in sustainable technologies and drawing the most influential leaders in the industry.”

People like to show up and check out the new rides: ones they can afford, ones they can’t just yet and ones they’ll likely never be able to. Where the 2015 BMW X6 M fits into the above scenario (it will run you a little north of $100,000) says a lot about you. And if you can afford one right now, stop perusing this write-up and get on the site and look for a luxury apartment in Bethesda, Georgetown or Arlington already!

It’s a gas: Toyota’s hydrogen-powered Mirai, which goes on sale in the U.S. later this year, will be one of the more exotic stars of the show. (Masaru Kamikura via Flickr)

Either way, what BMW calls “the world’s first Sports Activity Coupé” is going to be there, along with the company’s X5 M. So will dozens of other manufacturers, including, according to the auto show’s website, Cadillac, Volvo, Audi and MINI. For those legitimately interested in checking out something they might be able to afford, Chevy, Ford and Chrysler will be there too, along with other automakers in your price range.

The site says there will be “more than 700 new makes and models” on hand, and you can be sure there’ll be a few showstoppers as well. Countless thousands make the trek annually to be wowed.

Hey, you can even check out a veritable historical treasure in the GM Futurliner No. 10, which will also be on display. Call me weird, but I’m wondering: Can I live in that?

Here is the schedule of events, which includes Ride N’ Drives, contests and giveaways. And for those into this kinda thing, there’ll be celebrities appearing, C-listers maybe, highfliers like WWE wrestler Randy Orton, Sadie Robertson of “Duck Dynasty” fame, and former Redskins Charley Taylor, Dave Butz and Mark Moseley.

A regular adult ticket goes for $12, kids 6-12 get in for $5, and the VIP treatment will cost you 35 smackers. Kids under five get in for free; get those fake IDs ready. Here are the show’s hours.

The Mt Vernon Sq 7th St-Convention Center Metrorail station on the Green/Yellow Line is located right next to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. So take the train to see the cars.
