Reasons Why Fish are Good for Your Soul

Tropical fish swimming in an aquariumWant some relaxation, good energy, and just an overall calming lifestyle? Perhaps having a few fish in your home will help you find all of the above.

Before you go to the pet store to purchase a fish, ask your landlord or property manager if you are allowed to have a fish tank in your apartment home.

Next, pick out a fish best suited to your lifestyle. There are high-maintenance fish and some fish that don’t need as much care as others. If you are looking for something that doesn’t need constant upkeep, you will be less stressed if you purchase a fish that doesn’t require you to take care of it on a daily basis. Having a high-maintenance fish will only bring stress and negativity into your apartment home. The smaller the fish, the better. Try starting out with a betta fish and working your way up to more tropical fish from there.

In terms of tank setup, some fish tanks have water that constantly runs through a filter that creates a soothing waterfall-like sound which can be very relaxing. Though some filters for fish tanks can get a bit pricey there are also cheaper alternatives for smaller tanks. You can also buy air pumps that help provide the water with more oxygen to make your fish happy and healthy.

Watching fish swim around in their tank can also be quite soothing. Fish have a great calming affect; they can reduce anxiety, blood pressure, and chronic stress. Watching fish will help center your mind and is perfect for use with meditation exercises. Try taking some stress out of your day-to-day life by clearing your mind for 10-20 minutes after work and simply studying your fish tank. You’ll be amazed at the improvements in your mind, body, and soul.

If you don’t want to worry about having a pesky cat or dog and cleaning up after their messes, a fish is the perfect pet. One of the most stress-free pets, fish will always be there to listen to you when no one else wants to. They’re stuck in a tank, where else are they going to go? The only downfall is that you can’t cuddle with a fish. The upside is that you won’t have to worry about pet fur. Fish are quiet animals that will add a feeling of peace and serenity throughout your home.

Do you enjoy decorating? Get creative when decorating your fish’s tank to make your apartment home more visually appealing. This can be an entertaining activity, and it can even be fun to go to the pet store to pick out some cool plants and stone knick-knacks for your fish’s new home. Having live plants in your fish’s tank can help purify the air around you as well.

For a more tranquil lifestyle, consider investing your heart and soul into purchasing a fish for your apartment home.
