Mitchellville Puts the Renter in Touch with the Great Outdoors

Golfer

Swing fever: Enterprise Golf Course is open year round. The course features a driving range, practice green, pro shop and snack bar.

In 2000, the population of Mitchellville was 9,611. It’s located in Prince George’s County about two miles from the I-495 Capital Beltway and offers the renter an easy way to commute to other metro-area towns.

Better yet, it sits on U.S. Route 50, which will take you right into the city.

While it doesn’t have a WMATA Metrorail station, it’s only about three or so miles to the east of the New Carrollton stop on the Orange Line. In addition, the Metrorail stop is accompanied by a Maryland Transit Administration MARC train. Of course, you’re also only a short car ride away from Bowie if you happen to work there.

Renters in the Mitchellville area will discover plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.

Golfers will want to swing by Enterprise Golf Course and drive some balls down the back nine. The curious putter will want to visit the Newton White Mansion that sits on course grounds. Tours of the Neo-Georgian structure are available by appointment. And if you like it, I mean if you really take a shine to it, the impressive edifice can be rented out for special occasions.

Washington Redskins fans will also be happy to know that living in Mitchellville puts you just a few miles from FedEx Field.

But that’s not the only destination in town for those who play golf. No, sir. There’s also the Country Club at Woodmore, which offers an Arnold Palmer-designed course. Among its accolades, it was ranked eighth in the Middle Atlantic by “Golf Digest” in 2007. But you do have to be a member to play.

A very green area, there are several parks near Mitchellville that have a Bowie address but are within walking distance. In fact, why Enterprise Estates Recreation Center is considered part of Bowie confuses the mind.

There are grocery stores within a short driving distance. For more substantial shopping excursions, you can either take to the Beltway or head over to nearby Bowie Town Center, which features Macy’s, Sears, Barnes & Noble and Old Navy as anchor stores.
