Crumbs & Whiskers, D.C.’s First Cat Café, Now Open for Cuteness
Crumbs & Whiskers is now a reality. Owner Kanchan Singh finally found the right spot in Georgetown, flew over the D.C. bureaucratic hurdles that were in her way, and the city’s first cat café opened on June 20.
We reported on her dream back in December, and darn tootin’ if she didn’t make it happen. The story of Crumbs & Whiskers has taken on a life of its own. The media-savvy owner knew what she was doing apparently. Her Kickstarter campaign raised $35,881 and to hear her tell it, it was her favorite thing ever. It sure seems like it.
Crumbs & Whiskers has partnered with the Washington Humane Society, who will give her a bunch of adoptable cats for you to pet, hug and otherwise be a kid with. (But ah, you better not go picking up cats willy-nilly, because many of them do not like being picked up, and still others not until they become comfortable with you; we want you to keep the blood in your body).
A major difference in what was originally planned concerns the food served: It’s not being made at the location now. Crumbs & Whiskers have (once again) partnered with a café that will make real-time deliveries.

Maybe the real indication this cat palace has made a splash is that its Twitter page was hacked a while ago. It says here that people usually don’t hack into an unopened business unless it’s going to be something special. And no, ignore the rumors that it was a Labrador retriever stanchioned along Q Street who was the culprit. Don’t believe that at all. Dogs are notoriously bad typists and generally lack the deviance of cats; they generally like to get right at you, no cyber crap for them!
So, all that’s left for you to do is go for a visit, play with some nice furry creatures, and, if you feel the spark, adopt an animal in need – and get a friend for life.
