Adelphi Offers Convenient Location for Renting Near Campus

With two college campuses located in or near town, Adelphi easily passes the higher education test.

Looking for a cozy, affordable community inside the beltway? Adelphi, MD, just might be your place.

First, there’s the convenience factor. Located in northern Prince George’s County, Adelphi is only about three miles north of Washington, D.C., and sits adjacent to Routes 193 and 650 – making it easy to commute to any suburban Maryland or District job. The town also hugs the inside of the aforementioned I-495 Capital Beltway.

What’s more, there are two WMATA Metrorail stops in the area – College Park and Greenbelt – giving you more options for your daily commute.

History buffs will enjoy the sites around Adelphi, starting with the Adelphi Mill. Located on the northwest branch of the Anacostia River and built in 1796 by the Schofield brothers, Adelphi Mill is the oldest and largest mill in the Washington area. Situated in a park setting, it has air conditioning, a warming kitchen and hardwood floors, and is available to rent for residents of Prince George’s or Montgomery County. The Adelphi Mill is on the southern end of the Rachel Carson Greenway Trail, a hiker-biker pathway that, when completed, will stretch 25 miles from P.G. County to the Patuxent River.

Other can’t-miss commemoratives include the Cool Spring House, another 1790s-era structure where the Adelphi Mill operator lived, and Gallant House, a mid-nineteenth century dwelling that incorporates antebellum and 1920s architectural styles.

Finally, prospective students looking for apartments in Adelphi will note the town’s proximity to the University of Maryland campus in neighboring College Park. There’s also the University of Maryland University College – a distinct, four-year institution that’s also part of the state university system – located right in Adelphi.
