Top 4 Reasons to Live in Foggy Bottom
Located in the Northwest quadrant of Washington, D.C., Foggy Bottom has become one of the most highly sought after neighborhoods to live in within the District. Home to George Washington University, the Kennedy Center, and steps from the White House it’s no surprise that the area is so popular. Here you can also find streets lined with beautiful row houses and great apartments like The 925 Apartments. After living in Foggy Bottom for the past year, here’s my perspective on why it’s definitely worth all the hype:
With over 50 restaurants in Foggy Bottom you will never run out of options. A local favorite is South Block where you can get fresh smoothies and delicious acai bowls on a hot day. Another local classic is Penn Grill, a build your own stir fry bar where both students and office workers flock for lunch and dinner. Don’t forget to stop by the GW Deli for a great egg and cheese bagel. Crepeaway is another popular dining spot where you can get both sweet and savory crepes. The best part? The restaurant is open till 4am on the weekends and becomes a dance party. However, it is clear by the constant line out the door that Founding Farmers is a Foggy Bottom favorite.

The Foggy Bottom GWU Metro Station makes all of DC easily accessible to the residents of Foggy Bottom. The Blue, Silver, and Orange line all make a stop here along with many buses. Don’t forget to stop by the FRESHFARM Farmers’ Market right outside the Metro every Wednesday from 3-7pm for some fresh fruits, veggies and great food. Public transportation not your schtick? DC is super bike friendly and you can pick up an affordable bicycle at shops like the family owned District Hardware and Bike. Foggy Bottom also has easy access to the George Washington Memorial Parkway getting you wherever you need to go.
Nestled in the NW quadrant of DC, Foggy Bottom is surrounded by both historical and cultural DC landmarks. Foggy Bottom is steps away from the National Monuments which never seem to get old. Be sure to visit the monuments with your friends late at night to get to experience the Mall with fewer tourists. Looking for a fun activity? Take the free shuttle from the George Washington Memorial Hospital over to the Kennedy Center for their free concert at 6pm every night.
Residents also enjoy strolling through Georgetown on the weekends for some shopping. It is easy to find exciting night life with a location close to many clubs and bars. Some of the most popular are in nearby Dupont Circle and on U Street. Within Foggy Bottom you can find many federal government offices including the State Department, the White House, and many more. Foggy Bottom is also home to many international and American organizations such as the World Bank.

Foggy Bottom is home to George Washington University with over 25,000 students who create a lively community. Enjoy world renowned speakers like Buzz Aldrin and many world leaders at Lisner Auditorium or come cheer on the GW Colonials at the Smith Center. Every weekend you will find students outside in University Yard or Kogan Plaza with different clubs and organizations. Also benefit from close access to the George Washington Memorial Hospital. There is never a lack of things to do on campus for both visitors and students alike!
