Navy Yard Keeps On Sailing With Upcoming Apartment Community

Navy Yard has come a long way. About a decade ago I used to walk down there quite often and see the construction and wonder: Really, down here? Yes, down there.

And when Nationals Park opened in 2008, things changed further. Now there was a reason to traverse the area other than work.

These days, it’s becoming more than a destination to watch baseball; it’s becoming a community, as this September 2014 Washington Post article attests to.

And guess what? They’re still building. UrbanTurf just reported on a new, 220-unit project in the neighborhood set to open in late 2016, and I don’t have to tell you how time flies.

The project, which will be located on 82 I Street, S.E., is being developed by Greystar Real Estate Partners and RCP Development. The building will be a D.C.-sized 13 stories, and like a lot of properties these days in the District, it’ll be mixed-use with a little retail thrown in. Check out a rendering of the project.

Navy Yard and its surrounding environs are coming alive these days. This is a great place to rent an apartment if your goal is to stay a while and partake in the growth of an emerging community.
